As a Solstice customer, you continue to receive and pay for your electricity from your utility provider as usual, but with community solar savings applied! After your solar farm is energized, you begin receiving credits on your monthly Xcel bills for the energy that your share of the solar farm produced.
Each credit is applied as a deduction on your Xcel bills. You then pay Solstice for each credit at your fixed 10% or 28% discount (depending on your income eligibility), ensuring you always save on your monthly electric costs.
Here's the breakdown of the process:
- Your community solar credit is applied as a deduction on your monthly Xcel bills, lowering your electric costs. Xcel also applies a small administrative fee to your monthly utility bills to help manage the community solar program - this fee will always be less than the value of your credits, so you will still save on your electric costs. You pay your Xcel bill as you normally would.
- Approximately 1-2 months after each credit is applied, you receive an invoice via email from Solstice. Each invoice details the credit you previously received on your Xcel bill, your discounted cost to Solstice for the credit, and your total savings. Solstice charges you via autopay one week after your invoice is issued.
As an example, if you receive a $100 community solar credit on your Xcel bill, Xcel would deduct that amount from your electric costs. Around 1-2 months later, Solstice would send you an invoice for that same $100 credit previously applied to your Xcel bill, charging you for that credit at your 10% or 28% discount. With the discount applied, you will always pay Solstice less than your credit.
