What is the community solar credit and charge on my Orange & Rockland bill?

If you're enrolled on a two-bill project with Solstice, meaning you receive a bill from O&R and Solstice, please ignore this article - you do not have charges from Solstice on your O&R bill.

Soon after your share of a community solar farm begins producing energy, you begin receiving solar credits on your monthly O&R electric bills.

Each credit is applied as a deduction, which helps you save on your electric costs! Though we aim to cover as much of your typical annual electric cost as possible, your monthly credit may not always fully cover what you owe to your utility.

Your community solar savings for the month can be found in the "Adjustments" line on the first page of your bill in the bill breakdown, but please note other adjustments may be included in the same line. More specific details can be found in the "CDG Credit Summary" section, as shown in the example below.

Details of each line are as follows:

  • "Prior Credit" is any excess credit carried over from previous months.
  • "Adjustments" is your net savings - what you saved on your current bill by being a Solstice customer. This is the difference between your full credit and the discounted charge for that credit. You'll see it included as a negative value on the first page of your bill.
  • "Current Month Allocated CDG Credit" is the full credit amount you received from the most recent solar production period.
  • "Host Bank Credit Allocation" is unused credit from the solar project that can be applied to customer bills to help cover additional costs.
  • "Total CDG Credit" is the total amount of credit applied to the current bill. This may include prior credits and banked credits, if applicable. Please note that credits can only be applied up to the total cost of your electric charges (plus any related taxes) for the current billing period.
  • "Remaining CDG Credit" is excess credit that will be included as "Prior Credit" on your next electric bill(s). It will be available to be applied to future bills when applicable.
  • "CDG Savings Rate" is your community solar project's fixed discount. You're charged for your credit with this discount included.
  • "CDG Subscription Fee" is what you pay for your credit with the discount included. This amount is always less than your credit to ensure you're always saving!
  • "Total CDG Net Credit" is your lifetime credit to date. Please note that this value may be inaccurate due to your billing system changes on O&R's end.

In your online Solstice account, you can find monthly credit explainers that include the total credit value and 10% discounted charge calculated on your O&R bills. Please note that your monthly credit explainers typically appear in your Solstice account 1-2 months after you receive the savings on your bill. This delay is due to the processing time it takes for O&R to send us your credit information.
