How does community solar affect my budget billing plan with Central Hudson?

You can still be a Solstice customer if you’re enrolled in a budget billing plan with Central Hudson, however, your community solar crediting and billing process will be different.

Here’s what to expect:

  • Your monthly budget bill amount with Central Hudson will not change and you will continue to pay that on a monthly basis.
  • Your monthly community solar credit will be applied to your Central Hudson account balance, but it will not be deducted from your monthly balance due. Central Hudson will deduct the lump sum of your community solar credits from your account during your annual account true-up.
  • If you're on a two-bill community solar project, meaning you receive a bill from Central Hudson and Solstice, you will be charged by Solstice each month for your community solar credits at your 10% discounted rate. This is in addition to continuing to pay your monthly budget amount to Central Hudson.
  • If you're on a consolidated billing community solar project, meaning you do not receive a separate bill from Solstice, the 10% discounted charge for your credits will be added to your monthly total due to Central Hudson.
  • You will still save money as a Solstice customer, but instead of seeing your community solar savings on a monthly basis, you will see annual savings.

In order to see your community solar savings deducted from your electric costs on a monthly basis, you would need to disenroll from your budget billing plan with Central Hudson. By disenrolling, please be aware that you would no longer make a fixed monthly payment to Central Hudson - you would continue to pay Central Hudson every month, but your payments would vary based on your actual electric usage. Please contact Central Hudson if you wish to disenroll from budget billing.
