What will I see on my utility and Solstice bills once I start receiving credits?

Utility bills can be tricky to decipher and community solar credits add another element to the mix. If you're wondering what your bills will look like with a Solstice subscription, we've got you covered!

Here's how the process works:

  • Soon after your share of a community solar farm goes begins producing energy, you begin receiving solar credits on your monthly utility bills. Each credit is directly deducted from what you owe to your utility company for your electric costs.
  • Approximately 1-2 months after you receive each credit on your utility bill, you pay Solstice for the credit at a discounted rate. This means you receive guaranteed monthly savings!

Discount rates are fixed and vary per community solar project. The example below shows how a 10.25% discount would affect a customer's utility and Solstice bills. Please note your discount rate may be different.

In this example, the customer's monthly utility bill came as usual, but with one difference: a $100 solar credit was applied to the bill. This credit represents the value of the energy the subscriber's solar allocation produced that month. By subtracting that $100 credit from the customer's utility expenses, the cost to the utility fell from $120 to $20.

Around 1-2 months later, Solstice would send an invoice for that same $100 credit. Instead of asking the customer to pay the full value of the credit, Solstice would apply the 10.25% discount. This is where the savings come from. With the 10.25% discount applied, the customer paid $89.75 for their credit instead of the full $100. This means that, overall, the customer saved $10.25 in one month.
